The GTPD has a Safe Exchange Zone inside and outside our department. The inside location is located between the watch desk area and court room and the outside location is located by the front steps of the Police Department.
This Save Exchange Zone should be used for such things as custody exchanges and online purchase exchanges. This is a safe, well lit area that is recording and open 24 hours a day to help improve your safety during these transactions.
Additional safety precautions:
- We want to encourage you to meet at our police station.
- Our police station is open 24 hours a day, but we want to encourage you to not do transactions at night.
- Never meet in a secluded area.
- Never invite strangers to your home, or go to a stranger’s house.
- Use your instincts. If a deal is too good to be true, it probably is.
- Always be cautious when purchasing/ selling a high priced item.
