FIREARMS APPLICATION PROCEDURES
You must be 18 to apply for a Firearms ID Card and 21 to obtain handgun permits.
All Firearms Applications are now being processed electronically via an online application through the New Jersey State Police Firearms Application and Registration System (FARS). This includes anyone obtaining a Firearms ID (FID) for the first time, Duplicate FID Cards, Change of Address, and anyone applying for Handgun Purchase Permit. All Gloucester Township residents are to utilize the FARS website listed below to process their applications. “Permits to Carry” are not able to be applied for utilizing the new system. The paper application still applies to Permits to Carry.

You will also need to enter the Gloucester Township Police Department’s
ORI Number: NJ0041500
You will also need to enter the following personal information:
-Full Legal Name
-Social Security Number
-Drivers License Number
-State Bureau of Investigation Number (SBI #) (if applicable – returning firearms applicants)
-Valid phone numbers and email address for you
-Names, phone numbers, and valid email address of 2 personal references
After the final submission, you must “Print” the Fingerprint form. Also print both the confirmation page and application at the end of the process. This is for quick reference in the event of any issues.
You will be contacted by the Gloucester Township Police Firearms Investigations Unit to arrange making payment for your initial Firearms ID card (FID), and/or Pistol Purchase Permit(s). Your application will not be processed until you have paid for the FID or Pistol Purchase Permit(s). Non-refundable payment is required to be made at the time of application as per N.J.A.C. 13:54-1.4.
If approved, you will receive an email indicating the status of your application. You will also receive a phone call from the Gloucester Township PD Firearms Investigations Unit, who will help to schedule your appointment to have your Firearm ID Card and/or Pistol Purchase Permit(s) issued.
