Two Trespassers Arrested for Possession of Loaded Firearms and Narcotics

On 4/11/2020 at 1245 PM, Gloucester Township Officers responded to the Howard Johnson Hotel 832 N. Black Horse Pike Blackwood Room #203 after receiving a report of two males trespassing inside of the room, later identified as Wade M. Smith and Tyrone Lee from Bridgeton. One of the males was observed by maintenance on a bed lying on top of a revolver. Maintenance left the room and contacted the police. Arriving officers were able to make contact with the male occupants inside the room while donning their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The two (2) males complied with officer’s request and were safely vacated from the room.

A search of the room led to the recovery of a defaced loaded Colt .38 cal Detective’s Special revolver, a quantity of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, and cocaine.

Additional follow up was conducted by the Gloucester Township Police Investigations Bureau led to the recovery of an additional loaded black Sig Sauer P228 .9mm, one (1) high capacity magazine equipped with hollow point ammunition secreted within a mattress of the same room.

Chief David Harkins promised early into the COVID-19 crisis, “The Gloucester Township Police Department will be prepared and continue to provide our residents and business owners the same level of service and security during this pandemic. We are going in 100% and will not stop arresting criminals. We are here to protect our community and our officers continue to do an excellent job!”

Both were charged with Possession of Firearm (2nd degree), Possession of a Defaced Firearm ( 4th degree), Certain Person Not to Have Weapons (2nd degree), Possession of CDS (3rd degree), Possession of Hollow Point Ammunition (4th degree), and Possession of High Capacity Magazines (4th degree). Lee and Smith were remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a Central First Appearance in accordance with the New Jersey Criminal Reform Act.
