Media Release: Evening Fire Injures Resident and Damages Garage

LOCATION: 1000 Block of Chews Landing Road, Gloucester Township NJ

On September 10th at approximately 5:56 pm, the Gloucester Township Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Chews Landing Road for the report of a dwelling fire. Arriving officers encountered heavy smoke and observed fire coming from the attached garage. As Gloucester Township Fire Departments were arriving, Officers ensured the residents were evacuated.

Gloucester Township Fire Department Stations 82, 85, 86 and Runnemede Fire Department arrived on location and quickly extinguished the fire.

One resident suffered minor burns to their legs and arms and was treated at a nearby Hospital. Their name is not being released at this time.

While this incident does not appear to be suspicious at this time, it is being investigated by the Gloucester Township Police Department Investigations Bureau and the Chews Landing Fire Department Fire Marshal.

This is a reminder to check you fire suppression systems and alert / audible alarm systems to ensure they are operational. Smoke alarms are a key part of any fire escape plan. When there is smoke, there is fire which can spread quickly. Working smoke alarms give you early warning, so you can get outside quickly.
