Man Assaults Officers And Claims To Have Covid-19 During Arrest

On May 21st, 2020, at approximately 8:06 PM, Officers responded to Girard Avenue in the Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township for a report of a physical dispute between family members. During the investigation, Randall Rivers became irate and uncooperative with Officers. Officers attempted to calm Mr. Rivers but to no avail as he began screaming obscenities and expressing his displeasure for police being at his home.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Mr. Rivers was advised that he was under arrest. At that time, he became combative with Officers and resisted being handcuffed. He then assaulted two officers by repeatedly kicking them and yelling that he had COVID-19 and that they were now exposed. Both Officers were treated for minor injuries during the arrest.

Mr. Rivers was charged with one count of Terroristic Threats (2nd Degree), one count of Resisting Arrest (3rd Degree), two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, one count of Failure to Submit to Identification Procedures/Fingerprinting (DP), and one count of Harassment (PDP). Mr. Rivers was initially transported to Virtua Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden for evaluation and was then remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a hearing in accordance with the New Jersey Criminal Bail Reform Act.
