On July 3, 2020 at approximately 8:20 pm, the Gloucester Township Police Department’s Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a house fire at 5 Thisleton Road in the Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township. Arriving Officers observed smoke coming from the interior of the residence and a small fire on the first floor in the kitchen area. Officers attempted to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers but were unable to douse the growing flames.

Gloucester Township Fire District 85-Lambs Terrace and Fire District 86- Erial along with the Pine Hill Fire Department responded and placed the fire under control after several minutes. A pet dog was inside of the residence at the time of the fire and was rescued by fire department personnel. The dog was transported to a local veterinary clinic by residents for treatment and is expected to be okay. As a result of the fire, five residents were temporarily displaced and provided lodging assistance by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshall but is believed to be accidental.

This incident is a good reminder to check the batteries in your smoke detectors and ensure that are working properly in the event they are ever needed.
