Gloucester Township Police Media Release: Copycat Arrest For False Report Of Tainted Halloween Candy, 11-1-2015
On November 1, 2015, the Gloucester Township Police Department responded to a home on Hillcrest Avenue in Blackwood for a report of Halloween candy that was tampered with. Officers arrived on location and spoke with the resident, Robert Ledrew, who reported that he had located four sewing needles in four separate pieces of candy from trick or treating on Halloween.
It was discovered that Robert Ledrew had posted a photo of a needle and comments of the alleged incident on a Facebook page the day prior to contacting the police. Additionally, there had been recent reports of alleged tampered Halloween candy circulating in the local news media.
During a further investigation by the Gloucester Township Police Department’s Investigations Bureau it was discovered that Robert Ledrew had made up the story and had placed the needles in the candy bars. The accused, Robert Ledrew was charged with making a false police report and released on a criminal summons pending court date.
