K – 9 Teams

The Gloucester Township Police Canine (K-9) Teams were established in 1999 and its mission is to assist in the prevention and detection of crime, to locate persons sought by the police, and to carry out other police duties.

K9 Teams are assigned their own vehicles, which enable the officers and dogs to remain together at all times. The officers also have kennels at their residences so they can care for their stay at home K9 partners while off duty with their families.

The K9 Teams are assigned to Patrol Platoons and assist officers by locating fleeing suspects, missing people, illicit narcotics, weapons and evidence. K9 Teams are also Special Response Team (SRT) certified and deploy for all SRT related incidents. They have served police departments in the entire Camden County area and surrounding counties, as well as, several federal law enforcement agencies.

The GTPD K9 Teams conduct numerous public demonstrations for neighborhoods, schools, civic and community organizations on a regular basis as well. They have competed in several Regional and National Field Trials sponsored by the United States Police Canine Association (U.S.P.C.A.) and have been awarded top honors for their achievements. The Gloucester Township Police Department was the proud host of the U.S.P.C.A. National Police Dog I Trial in the Fall of 2016.
