Message from Chief David Harkins: National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

“We celebrate our Gloucester Township Police Department Public Safety Telecommunicators during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week from April 10-16, 2022. Our Telecommunicators (a.k.a. Dispatchers) are the often unseen, and unacknowledged heroes of the Gloucester Township Police Department. They are truly “heroes behind their headsets”, as they provide the crucial lifeline between the community and the officers who respond to all emergencies and calls for service.

The dispatchers of the Gloucester Township Police Department Communications Unit are professional, dedicated, and efficient in performing their role in public safety response. They have proven to be one of the greatest assets in the Gloucester Township Police Department Community Policing Program. The greatest asset of any organization are the people who get the job done. Our Telecommunicators know the people and they know the community. They provide exceptional service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Almost every hour of every day they receive emergency calls, and have to quickly process the information from an often-frantic caller. They get resources to respond and provide the vital information needed to safely resolve an incident. Since seconds matter when an emergency occurs, we are dedicated to providing them the support that they need through state-of-the-art technologies, training, as well as resiliency and wellness programs.

I am honored to serve alongside the Telecommunicators of the Gloucester Township Police Department, as they work behind the scenes to provide this critical service to the community. Please join me in thanking and recognizing these unsung heroes, and all the great work that they do.

Thank you to all of our Public Safety Telecommunicators! You are truly appreciated!

David J. Harkins
